Vumagazine.nl makes use of cookies. A cookie is a small file placed on the computer of the internet user. There are both technical cookies and tracking cookies. These cookies are transmitted together with pages on this website (and/or Flash applications) and are stored by the browser on your computer’s hard drive. The information stored in these cookies can then be transmitted back to our servers, next time you pay us a visit. Although the vast majority of cookies collect no personal details, we are required by law in the Netherlands to ask for your permission to use cookies. In our cookie statement, we explain which cookies will be installed, why they are installed and whether we pass on the details obtained to third parties. PERMANENT COOKIES

Once you have given permission for the installation of cookies, or after you used our website, we are able to remember this fact by means of a permanent cookie. We can then recognize you on any future visit to our website. As a result, the website can be adjusted specifically to your preferences. This means you are not required to repeat your preferences on every visit, saving you time and facilitating a more pleasant visit to our website.

The permanent cookie remembers for ten years that from a specific device, permission has been given for installing cookies. After that time has elapsed, you will once again be asked for permission to allow cookies.

TRACKING COOKIES BELONGING TO US

Having received your permission, or after you used our website, we will place a cookie on your device, which can be retrieved as soon as you visit a website that makes up part of our network. This lets us know that in addition to our website, you have also visited other websites in our network. The resulting profile is not linked to your name, address, e-mail address, etc., but is used only to match advertising to your profile to ensure the greatest possible relevance of any advertising displayed.

TRACKING COOKIES BELONGING TO THIRD PARTIES

Having received your permission, or after you used our website, our advertisers can place “tracking cookies” on your device. They use these cookies to keep a record of which pages from their network you have visited, in order to build up a profile of your online surfing behaviour. This profile is also built up on the basis of similar information they obtain following any visits you make to other websites from their network. This profile is not linked to your name, address, e-mail address, etc. as known to us, but is used only to match advertising to your profile, to ensure the greatest possible relevance of any advertising displayed.

VU University Amsterdam makes use of a remarketing cookie. This cookie is used for activities regarding Bachelor’s and Master’s programme recruiting. This cookie is a tiny code fragment embedded in specific pages, the purpose of which is to compile a remarketing list on the basis of a cookie ID. This cookie makes it possible to display targeted advertising via the Google ad network, on other websites affiliated to the Google display network.

GOOGLE ANALYTICS COOKIES

Via our website, a cookie from the American company Google is installed, as part of the “Analytics” service. We make use of this service to generate a record of and to receive reports about how visitors make use of the website. If so required by law, or in as much as third parties process information on behalf of Google, Google is able to provide this information to third parties. We have no influence on this third-party use. We have not authorized Google to make use of the analytics information obtained in this way, for other Google services.

As far as possible, the information collected by Google is rendered anonymous. It goes without saying that your IP address is not shared. The information is transferred to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Google has undertaken to comply with the Safe Harbor principles and is affiliated with the Safe Harbor program of the American Department of Trade. This means that the processing of any personal details is governed by a suitable level of protection.

SOCIAL NETWORK COOKIES

Our website includes buttons for promoting (“liking”) or sharing (“tweeting”) webpages, on social networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. These buttons work according to tiny pieces of code supplied directly by Facebook/LinkedIn/Twitter (or other social networks). This code enables the installation of cookies. We have no influence over this application.
